What is 200-day moving average?
A long-run trend line; price above it is widely read as a bull market filter.
The 200-day average compresses roughly ten months of trading into one number. It is slow by design, which makes it a useful regime filter and a poor timing tool.
Watch the slope as well as the cross: a flat 200-day average means the market is chopping, and crosses in that state whipsaw.
