What is Momentum?
The speed of recent price change; strong momentum tends to persist over short horizons.
Momentum is the observation that recent winners often keep winning over weeks, at least until they do not. It is measured with returns over fixed windows or oscillators like RSI.
The counterpart is mean reversion: over short windows, sharp moves often partially retrace. Which effect dominates is exactly what the direction model is trained to weigh.
