On-chain

What is Hash rate?

The total computing power securing a proof-of-work chain.

Hash rate is the rate of work miners apply. Rising hash rate means more machines defending the chain, usually alongside higher energy spend.

The difficulty adjusts to keep block times steady, so hash rate changes continuously without changing issuance.

  • Consensus by spending compute to find a hash below a target; Bitcoin's original mechanism.

  • MinerOn-chain

An operator that produces proof-of-work blocks and earns the block reward and fees.

  • BlockOn-chain

A batch of transactions appended to the chain, with a header that links it backwards.
